This week is the last session for our beloved mb362 lesson. We end it with a presentation of our business plan. After going through all of the assignment we've got during the semester, we wrap it together into a complete business plan and present it to the judge, which is people from the industry.
Did I ever tell you about our business plan in my previous posting? well.. just in case you don't remember, I will present it to you as well. Here we go...
The theme for this semester business plan is Tourism on the Go, take setting in Singapore tourism industry. Here some background to begin, in 2006 overseas visitor coming to Singapore hits the number of 9.7 M. However, despite its well-known reputation, Orchard Rd. can only attracts 69% of total visitors, while Sentosa only success in attracting 32% . Our group, ProCons, inc. addressing this problem, aiming to increase not only the number of tourist visiting Singapore but also increasing the number of Attraction visited by each tourist.
Our strategy is by introducing an integrated web and mobile service, which we call Mytrip. it consist of 2 independent yet complementary services, namely PlanUrTrip and GuideMe.
PlanUrTrip is a web-based service, in which visitor can plan their trip effectivelly prior to their arrival. Hmm... to get you the idea, lets think about timetable-planner or STARS planner (I believe you are familiar with these). planUrTrip work in the same manner as the timetable, except for you choose places of interest you want to visit during your holiday instead of subject you want to take in a semester. Complete information of the resort, transportation, dining and accomodation are included as well. frankly speaking, you just need to key in your information and preference and our system will generate the complete and detailed trip timetable for your convenience.
Next product, GuideMe is the extention of PlanUrTrip. It is a mobile-based service complementary to PlanUrTrip. After you get your trip-timetable from PlanUrTrip, you can actualy convert it into a small java application that can be downloaded and installed to your mobile phone. This program will acts as reminder on what you should do next, according to your schedule. It can also serves to guide visitors to move from one place to another and by what means of transportation.
Yup, thats all of our business plan innovation for Singapore tourism industry, we hope that visitors can enjoy their visit and leave with a memorable experience.
N.B. : As this is the last session of mb362 lesson, I would like to express my gratitute to Prof. Gilbert who has offered such a great mb362 lesson (very recommended for those persuing business minor). And for my team-mate Tegar, thanks a lot for the support and nice cooperation during the course. Thanks also to all of my classmate for sharing your idea and experience, without you guys, the lesson would not be so exciting.
Lastly, hope I can get a useful lesson from this class and please cross your finger for me that I will survive this upcoming exam ^^.

Bad Boy of The Cyberspace
.
Have you ever experiencing this...
Tomorrow is the deadline of your project and you are now rushing to finish it late at the night. To entertain yourself, you also browse some sites in the internet when suddenly a dialog box of installation just appear out of nowhere. Your computer start to slowing down and finally turn-off by itself. You try to start it up but it turn-off again and again. Aaaarrrrgghhh....
I know it is very stressful.
This is an example of virus infection. The methods and symptoms are varies among one virus to another but either ways it gives you a real pain in the ass. As nowadays almost all of our daily life is so close to computer and web, the damage is become real when a virus attacks.
Here another similar case:
Virus slammer had caused problem in air traffic control, infected a nuclear power plant, shutdown the 911 police and some ATM service in USA. Another virus called Blaster had causes more terifying problem, forcing air canada flight to be grounded and several windows-based ATM network infected.
Come to think of it, why virus are readily spread and attack computer system in very short time? And I just find the answer from this lecture. This is due to monoculture in computer system. Almost all of computer system (PC, Notebook, LAN, X-Box, ATM etc.) are using the same operating system, windows. And they are connected to the internet in the same manner, TCP and IP. Windows itself, is well-known to have so many bugs in its system, make it easy for virus, trojan, worm and hacker to attack the system. More ever, as windows OS are widely used the virus will spread readily.
I am just switching to Mac-OSX and from its community forum I just realize that actually I dont need any additional protection for malicious code as windows user do. As to date, there are no virus discovered for Mac-OSX. Mac-OSX with its build-in first-download-run warning is an effective method to prevent virus from entering the system. Another thing is, let say thare is viruses for Mac and a Mac-OSX user get infected, then how easy can it spread to other Mac user? as there aren't that many Mac user out there, which would make it even less likely for any virus to spread itself.
As for the foot note, beware of any malicious code, dont forget to update your OS and install an antivirus software.
